Just last week I was thinking, "How strange that Brandon hasn't had a concert this semester." Yesterday morning he informed us that he had a concert THAT NIGHT. Luckily we didn't have any major plans, and were able to make it. I swear that kid has some kind of aversion to delivering notes to and from school. Sheesh! The concert was really enjoyable. I liked it even more than the Christmas concert, which is usually my favorite. It is amazing to see how much the students progress each year. Even the boys seemed to enjoy it. And I don't think it was just because they knew we were going out for ice cream afterward. ;)
We went to our adoption class last night. It was the birth mother panel. Four birth mothers came and told their stories. Each one was different. Each one was a miracle. I was awed at their courage. Birth mothers are the most brave and selfless people on the earth. I cannot comprehend doing what they do. The sacrifice they make. The heartache.
One of the birth mothers' stories was heart wrenching. She was married when she got pregnant. Her husband left her. She decided to place her daughter for adoption.
Picked a family. When her baby was born, she couldn't do it. She backed out and took her home. After about four months, she came to the agonizing realization that she had been thinking only about herself. That her daughter would be better off in a family with a mom and a dad. She placed her for adoption at four months old. She told us how hard it was, but that she knew deep down that it was the right thing to do. I cannot imagine. As I listened to each of those amazing birth mothers, I couldn't help but think that I was in the presence of angels. I am so grateful for them.
